How DISC can help you to improve your connection

I've taken a lot of personality profiles and tests over the years, but none really got me as much as the DISC assessment I completed whilst studying for my coaching qualifications.

I connected with it so much that I went on and studied it at a more advanced level so that I could offer these assessments to my own clients.

Why do I love it?

DISC gives the leaders I work with brilliant insights into their communication style, interpersonal skills and shows how they can build better connections with their team, customers and communities.

The context as ever is key, but it allows us to go deeper in our sessions.

DISC itself stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. We all have elements of these in our personalities but the extent and the context in which they emerge changes.

It can also help determine the speed in which you act, whether you are more people or task-focussed, more outgoing or reserved.

And it illustrates perfectly why people doing the same task can take completely different approaches.

As well as giving individuals a better understanding of their behavioural and working styles, with DISC it breaks down how this might change, bringing awareness to how someone feels they need to adapt at work (for example) or what happens when they are feeling stressed.

And by having a better understanding of yourself allows you to understand how you work with others - where you might compliment or clash.

From a communication and connection point of view it allows individuals to adapt in order to build rapport and trust. It means your strengths don't become a weakness when working with other styles.

My clients have found it to be transformational in building relationships with their teams, their peers and their managers.
